Melbourne Mavericks elevate training players to active roster

2024-04-11T10:00+10:00

The Melbourne Mavericks have announced the elevation of two training players to their active playing list for the upcoming 2024 Suncorp Super Netball season. The decision comes in response to season-ending injuries sustained by contracted players Sasha Glasgow and Lauren Moore.

Rolene Streutker, a current member of the South African national team, has been promoted from her training partner position to become the Mavericks' 10th contracted player.

"Rolene has a huge amount of potential and believe within the Mavs environment and under the guidance of Tracey she will go from strength to strength." said Melbourne Mavericks General Manager Shae Bolton-Brown.

Additionally, the Mavericks will utilise the newly introduced Nominated Athlete Upgrade (11th player) to elevate training partner Shimona Jok to the active roster. The Nominated Athlete Upgrade allows clubs to sign an additional athlete who can be tactically integrated into the match-day squad throughout the season, beyond instances of injury or illness to contracted players.

"Elevating a player of Shimona’s class into our 11th player is huge for us. Shimona offers a whole new style of play in our attack end, creating a layer of depth that is critical to our game plan."

The Melbourne Mavericks take to the court for the very first time against cross-town rivals, the Melbourne Vixens, this Sunday, April 14th, at John Cain Arena at 2pm AEST. Tickets are available via Ticketek.
