Haas F1 Team driver Kevin Magnussen has heaped praise on the track layout of the Albert Park circuit ahead of the 2024 Australian Grand Prix.
The Albert Park Circuit has undergone severe changes since its return in 2022, with the event organisers opting to remove two chicanes in place of fast-sweeping right-left turns in order to make the track significantly faster.
Initially, the changes were criticised for not giving the drivers enough time to overtake each other but in the three years since the Australian Grand Prix has had its share of fast-paced moves, debunking those negative connotations.
Whilst Magnussen and Haas endured a rollercoaster first two practice sessions, the Danish driver admitted the changes and overall track layout is something he is a big fan of.
“I think it’s a very cool track and (this is) how a racetrack should look,” Magnussen said after FP2 on Friday.
“I think it’s one of the tracks where a mistake is costly, as we seen today, I think those are the best racetracks.
“I just prefer those.”
Whilst the event has become a spectacle on the track, off the circuit the unprecedented amount of fan support and buzz around the city is something that Magnussen noted as a major positive.
“Melbourne is a great event,” Magnussen added.
“I like coming here, it’s a long trip to get here so that’s the only downside of it.
“But, it’s a cool event and I like it.”
The drivers will hit the track again at 12:30pm on Saturday for the Third Practice session prior to qualifying at 4:00pm.
