Opening Round blow for Carlton with star Blue expected to spend time on the sidelines

2024-03-09T11:26+11:00

SEN’s Sam Edmund is reporting that Carlton star Sam Docherty will spend some time on the sidelines after injury his knee in the Blues’ epic Friday night win over Brisbane.

Docherty was subbed out of the game at half-time after clutching his knee due to a bruising Cam Rayner tackle in the opening quarter.

The 30-year-old returned to the field in the second quarter but was visibly in pain and subsequently played no further part of the game after the main break.

Given his history of knee injuries, Edmund says Docherty will likely miss a few weeks but scans in Melbourne on Saturday will confirm the full extent of the injury.

“Sam Docherty was subbed off at half time with what Michael Voss has described as a ‘jarred knee’,” Edmund told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“He grabbed at the lateral side of that knee immediately and was very sore after the game.

“The realistic expectation is that he’ll miss weeks, Docherty will be scanned later on today so the full toll will be known when he goes under the microscope there but they’ll no more as the weekend unfolds.

“The general expectation is that Sam Docherty is going to miss some football, it just remains to be seen how much football.”

Docherty's injury, however is likely to pale in comparison to that of Keidean Coleman, who suffered a ruptured ACL in the dying seconds before half-time.

Carlton will kick off Round 1 against Richmond on Thursday night before their Round 2 bye, which could come at a good time for Docherty.
