Arsenal has secured its first win of the calendar year with a stellar 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday night.
The Gunners had significant struggles over the last month of football, with the club’s last win coming on December 18th against Brighton.
With just one win and five goals scored from the last seven games, the pressure was beginning to mount on coach Mikel Arteta and his side as they began to slide in the Premier League title race.
Fresh off a lengthy mid-season break, Arsenal looked comfortable throughout their clash with Palace, going into the break up 2-0 before piling on three second half goals to secure the win.
“Having the ability to score from many different ways, especially when you attack a low block team like this, to score in a certain way everything has to be nailed absolutely perfectly,” Arteta said post-game.
“When you generate things that are a bit more chaotic, sometimes it opens teams up and is more difficult to do that.
“Today I think we exploited that really well because Palace had to change their behaviour and that allowed us spaces to exploit.
“At the moment we are really short in numbers, so we really have to manage a few players, especially players that have played a lot of football.
“We have good training blocks, one to train really hard and other ones to use for game preparation, so we’re going to have to try to maximise that space.”
Arsenal will enjoy a ten-day break before a Premier League tie with relegation battlers Nottingham Forrest on the 31st of January.
