Josh Jenkins is excited to watch the development of Geelong midfielder Tanner Bruhn over the coming years.
Jenkins, who worked as a part-time coach at the Cats in recent years, was impressed by Bruhn’s first year at the club after making the move from GWS.
“I really admired the way he went about it last season. I reckon he’s got all the makings,” he told SEN’s The Run Home.
“I’m not saying he’s going to be in the All-Australian team this year or next year or the year after that, but he’s certainly got all the makings of one of those really reliable, consistent 24-27 possession type midfielders.
“He’s elusive in the contest, he’s got really fast feet, he’s developing as a nice kick on both sides of his body and he’s up for the fight. He’s a good tackler.
“He was thrown around a lot last year, he was playing lower game time, he was out on the wing, he was at half-back, he was at half-forward, he was in the middle.
“There were some times in the second half of the year were he really shone and showed Cats fans that he will be a long-term AFL midfielder.”
Jenkins also has high hopes for Jack Bowes, who was traded to Geelong from the Suns at the same time as Bruhn.
“I didn’t know much about him when he arrived from Gold Coast, but he showed some signs,” he added.
“He had a calf injury in the pre-season, he had an injury after five weeks as well, but he’s got some of Mitch Duncan’s traits about him. He’s flexible, he’s not a penetrating kick, but he’s got great vision and he can hit those in between type of kicks.
“I reckon he can setup across half back and can be the one that frees up if the opposition is locking down Tom Stewart and can be creative for them.
“Hopefully his body holds up.”
