Aussies jump Pakistan with four-wicket blitz in first SCG session

Australia has started off David Warner’s farewell Test in the best possible manner, dismissing both of Pakistan’s opening batters for ducks.

Heading into a dead-rubber match, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first on a pitch that looked destined to deliver runs for both sides.

Walking out to a standing ovation and ushered onto the field by his children, Warner was the centre of attention as the Sydney crowd paid respect to a modern-day legend of the game.

Pat Cummins gave Mitchell Starc the new ball and it took him just two balls to strike, getting an edge from Abdullah Shafique that was taken by Steve Smith.

The early punishment continued for the tourists’ losing Sami Ayub just six balls later, with Hazelwood taking the second wicket of the session.

With both openers falling for ducks Pakistan become the fifth nation ever to lose its first two batters for no runs.

The tourists were left reeling after the first two overs but managed to steady the ship with Babar Azam getting comfortable at the crease.

Combining for a solid 35-run partnership, Azam and Shan Masood gave Pakistan a glimmer of hope, before Cummins struck for the Aussies' third wicket.

Cummins continued his rampant start with his second wicket of the day, getting the nod from the third umpire and dismissing Babar Azam through LBW.

Pakistan managed to show signs of life in the final overs before the lunch break, leaving the pitch with four wickets down for 75 runs.
