Full inaugural Melbourne Mavericks squad revealed

2023-12-21T07:45+11:00

The Melbourne Mavericks have finalised their 2024 SSN squad with another huge signing, announcing that Diamonds Wing Defence Amy Parmenter will be part of the inaugural Mavs team.

In addition to Parmenter, the Mavericks’ defence has been further bolstered by defender Lauren Moore, with Tayla Fraser also joining as the final piece of the puzzle for the team’s Championship ambitions.

The trio will complement the likes of Kim Jenner, Olivia Lewis, Gabby Sinclair, and Molly Jovic, who were announced in recent days, along with Sasha Glasgow, Eleanor Cardwell, and Maisie Nankivell, who were unveiled as Mavericks earlier in the week.

With the line-up now complete, Head Coach Tracey Neville has shared her views on each of the 2024 Mavericks signings:

Amy Parmenter:
“This girl is hungry to take her game to the next level, which makes her one of the most exciting players I have coached. She is feared by a lot of attackers, and I love that she has fun winning the ball in a one-on-one contest. She has an unbelievable skill to compete and is a great leader on and off the court.

Lauren Moore: “Lauren is an unassuming player who has an athletic ability to win the ball in and outside the circle. What drew me to Lauren is her ability to irritate her attacker and never let them settle. She also is a joyous character that will bring a lot of laughter to the group.”

Tayla Fraser: “This athlete has speed to burn, and her ability to get the ball is exciting. I like that she has taken this opportunity to take the next step in her netball journey. She is ready to make a statement.”

Kim Jenner: “Kim is a player that wants to compete and make a real difference to the team. Her strong attack on the ball is a pleasure to watch. Her competitive edge and flair around her defence is difficult to read and combat, causing all sorts of problems for an attacking unit.”

Olivia Lewis: “Liv is a very impressive and deceptive defender. Her physical capacity to contest in the air against bigger shooters is exciting and a threat to most feeders.”

Gabby Sinclair: “Quiet but extremely effective is how I would describe Gabby. Her ability to get the ball, feed the circle, and her composure under pressure to shoot from range is something I’m extremely excited to work with and develop.”

Molly Jovic: “Molly is one of the most underrated mid courters in the SSN. Her running capacity is impressive, and she has a flair on the ball that she isn’t scared to execute when needed. She is a good, honest, hard worker in attack and defence.

Eleanor Cardwell: “El has grown as a player and an individual over the last three years and is one of the dominant forces in International netball. She is such a strong target under the post, and her dominance in shooting from range, taking the ball under pressure, and feeding into the circle is a force. She has really grown as a leader over the last year.”

Sasha Glasgow: “Sasha is the most composed player I have ever watched; she goes about her game in a clinical way. Her ability to shoot from range is a massive threat to teams, and her change of direction under the post is a pleasure to watch.”

Maisie Nankivell: “I was so impressed with her at Adelaide last year. She is an athlete who never gives in. She was relentless in training and on the court and became a key member of the grand final success. She showed her versatility across the three midcourt positions. She has a huge tank and is an extremely powerful athlete.”
