NASCAR crew chief James Small is this week's guest on This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.
Melbourne born and raised, Small is the first full-time Aussie entrusted as a crew chief in the dominant stock car racing organisation.
Small calls the shots for his driver, Martin Truex Jr., who is one of the biggest stars of the sport. His team owner Joe Gibbs is also one of the biggest figures in all of American sport.
Small is also a Bathurst-1000 winning engineer, having guided Mark Winterbottom to his victory on the mountain in 2013.
Following that season, Small chased his dream in the USA and has been Truex Jr.’s crew chief since 2019.
Small has guided Truex Jr. to 14 different NASCAR Cup Series race wins and. The star driver finished 11th overall in the standings for the 2023 campaign.
