Michelle Payne has made her top selection for the 2023 Lexus Melbourne Cup.
The 2015 Melbourne Cup winning jockey believes More Felons is the horse to back in Tuesday’s great race.
Despite conceding that the current race favourite in Vauban does looks a treat after jumping out at Flemington last week, Payne believes the Chris Waller trained More Felons can give a sight at a big price for jockey Jamie Kah.
Kah will ride at the light weight of 50.5kgs and will jump from the widest barrier in 24, a barrier Payne admits will require some look out of.
But at $27, Payne is happy to be the five-year-old.
“I’ve spoken about Vauban, and I love him I just think he looks so good from the barrier and the 55Kgs,” Payne told SEN Breakfast.
“But, I’m going with More Felons as the roughie with Jamie Kah.
“If Jamie can slot in with a bit of cover and have a bit of luck, he’s in the right shape coming into the race and will give you a sight for your money in the Melbourne Cup.”
The former English galloper will have his second start in Australia after running fifth in the Geelong Cup a fortnight ago.
