Joey Manu is one of the most in-demand free agents in the NRL with rival clubs lining up to court him away from the Sydney Roosters.
The Kiwis’ star has already attracted a multi-million dollar offer from the Dragons, meaning Manu will likely have to take a pay cut in order to stay with the tricolours.
Currently stuck behind James Tedesco in the Roosters’ fullback pecking order, the allure of wearing the number one jersey full-time, at another club could also turn into a major factor with Manu’s free agency.
However, Roosters’ coach Trent Robinson confidently stated his belief that the Dragons’ interest in Manu may be overstated and questioned whether a formal offer had been made.
“I've seen the commentary around that (Dragons’ reported offer to Manu),” Robinson told SEN 1170 The Run Home.
“The first thing is, the conversation with his manager have been ongoing, we’re pretty comfortable with where they’re at.
“Joey is a Rooster, I don’t expect him to go anywhere.”
The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Wednesday that the Dragons are prepared to offer Manu a four-year deal worth around $1.2 million per season.
“(Flanagan) is really trying to rebuild the Dragons and that’s really their prerogative,” Robinson added.
“But I feel like they’ve thrown that out to get in touch with (Manu’s) manager.
“I don’t think those discussions have been had at all.”
Manu has played 158 NRL games for the Roosters since making his debut in 2016.
