2023-10-09T13:36+11:00

As the dust settles on the 2023 NRL season, all 17 clubs have handed out their own Player of the Year awards.

See below the full list of players who claimed top honours at their awards night.

Brisbane Broncos

Paul Morgan Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Payne Haas

Despite close competition from Pat Carrigan and Ezra Mam, this award was never in doubt for the man who has now claimed it for the fifth consecutive year – becoming the first player in the club’s history to do so.

Canberra Raiders

Meninga Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Joe Tapine

The ever-reliable Joe Tapine fought off stiff competition from Matthew Timoko and Sebastian Kris to claim his second straight Mal Meninga Medal.

Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs

Dr George Peponis Player of the Year Award: Jacob Preston

The first of two rookies NRL-wide to claim the best at their club in 2023. Jacob Preston was a shining light in a dull season for the Bulldogs.

Cronulla Sharks

Porter Gallen Medal – Player of the Year: Blayke Brailey

Arguably the most consistent player in the NRL, Blayke Brailey was named Cronulla’s Player of the Year after leading the NRL in tackles made with 1057.

Dolphins

Arthur Beetson Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Jamayne Isaako

Becoming just the seventh player in the game’s 116-year history to lead the league in both tries and points scored, Isaako took out the club’s top honour in its inaugural season.

Gold Coast Titans

Paul Broughton Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Moeaki Fotuaika

Fotuaika’s comeback season in 2023 was recognised by both club and players, winning both awards at the Titans’ night of nights.

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles

Roy Bull Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Daly Cherry-Evans

It was a clean sweep for the Manly skipper, taking out the club, player and member-voted best and fairest awards. In arguably career-best form, Cherry-Evans claimed his third Roy Bull Medal.

Melbourne Storm

Cameron Smith Player of the Year Award: Xavier Coates

One of the bigger surprises of the club award, Coates beat out stars Nick Meaney, Jahrome Hughes and Harry Grant to the award. Coates’ 2023 season was still a notable one with 16 tries and 11 line breaks in just 21 games.

Newcastle Knights

Danny Buderus Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Kalyn Ponga

The Dally M Player of the Year has taken out his third Danny Buderus Medal. In a season where he could do no wrong, it was no surprise that Ponga was given the top honour.

New Zealand Warriors

Simon Mannering Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Shaun Johnson

The second clean sweep of the 2023 club awards, Shaun Johnson’s spectacular season has seen him take out the club, player, and member-voted honours.

North Queensland Cowboys

Paul Bowman Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Scott Drinkwater

Taking out his first Paul Bowman Medal, Drinkwater had to fight off strong competition from Tom Dearden and Jake Granville.

Parramatta Eels

Ken Thornett Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Clint Gutherson

The King completed a clean sweep at the Eels’ awards night, highlighting his significance on the club’s weekly performances.

Penrith Panthers

Merv Cartwright Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Isaah Yeo

Yeo’s 2023 season was nothing short of spectacular, finishing with career highs in tackle breaks, tackles and running metres, earning him his second Merv Cartwright Medal.

South Sydney Rabbitohs

George Piggins Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Campbell Graham

Despite battling injury issues for the majority of the year, Graham’s 2023 club form was arguably the best in the league for his position.

St George Illawarra Dragons

Dragons Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Blake Lawrie

Beating Dragons’ skipper Ben Hunt to this award in recent years has been no easy feat but Lawrie’s breakout season in 2023 was a strong point in what was another disappointing season for the Red V.

Sydney Roosters

Jack Gibson Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Lindsay Collins

One of the stories of the 2023 season, Collins turned his Origin form into consistent performances for his club and rightfully took out the prestigious Jack Gibson Medal.

Wests Tigers

Kelly-Barnes Medal (NRL Player of the Year): Jahream Bula

Becoming just the first rookie in club history to win the award, Bula was crucial to the Tigers and has shown flashes of becoming an elite fullback in the NRL.
