Multiple clubs are considering a bold play to prise Clayton Oliver out of Melbourne, AFL Media’s Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge report.
The duo broke the news on AFL Trade Radio’s Gettable on Tuesday afternoon, but stressed there’s no indication Oliver wants out or Melbourne is shopping its superstar around.
In 2023, Oliver endured his first injury-interrupted season at AFL level, with multiple setbacks limiting the 26-year-old to just 13 games this year.
The 26-year-old is contracted until 2030 having signed a massive extension last season.
“One to watch over the next couple of weeks, clubs are weighing up now whether to make a move for Melbourne superstar Clayton Oliver in this year’s trade period,” Beveridge began.
“He obviously had a very challenging year…”
Twomey added: “Rival clubs are considering a the cost of a trade attempt for Oliver… it is unclear if he would be open to any move and there has been absolutely no indication that Melbourne would be willing to part with him either.
“This is from the point of view of rival clubs getting their (house) in order to see if a play for him is something they want to proceed with.”
Oliver has four best and fairest awards alongside three All-Australian blazers and is regarded as one of the most important players in the competition.
