He was coward punched in an unprovoked attack and is currently in hospital. He will likely need facial surgery. Details on #CrunchTime at 11am. @1116sen
The 32-year-old played his last game for the Kangaroos in Saturday’s loss to the Tigers.
He played 280 games for the club having originally made his debut in 2009.
Victoria Police have released a statement where they stated that Ziebell was pushed onto the road by the offender - who was in the company of two other men - before he was punched in the face and kicked when he fell to the ground.
Ziebell's injury is specific to his nose and serious enough to still be in hospital this morning. He's likely to be discharged today & sources believe he will need surgery. #CrunchTime on the @1116sen app now and from midday on radio as well. https://t.co/rqbCaHon71

An eyewitness account backed up the Police's statement, with Morris stating that Ziebell was knocked out in the unprovoked attack.
"Ziebell exited the club with what we believe was his partner. A stranger walks up, punches Ziebell in the chin and lays further strikes. Knocks him out cold. Completely unprovoked."
