The 4 certainties for Fremantle versus Western Bulldogs

2023-04-21T14:15+10:00

Back for another week, the SEN.com.au team gives you an insight into how every game will play out across the weekend.

Labelling something a ‘certainty’ in any sport is fraught with danger.

But we’ll attempt to find some anyway.

Last week we went 17/24 and we'll endeavour to go bigger again.

Here is what we consider certainties for the Round 6 opener of Fremantle vs Western Bulldogs.

Andy Brayshaw to have 25 or more disposals

Averaging over 26 disposals this year, Fremantle's premier midfielder will light it up on Friday night in a must-win game for his side.

Brayshaw, to his lofty standards, has had a slow start to 2023, polling coaches votes in just one game this year and it was only a two vote game.

The last time he faced off against the Bulldogs he had 32 disposals and a goal and the thing with the Dogs, they never use a tagger which fills you with confidence when making these predictions.

Lock it in legends.

Luke Ryan to have 20+ disposals

Luke Ryan has had an excellent start to the year for Fremantle across half back and should continue that form on Friday night.

He has passed the 20-disposal threshold in three of the first five games with a personal best of 37.

Freo should control the game and Ryan will find plenty of footy across half back.

Marcus Bontempelli to have 23+ disposals and 5+ clearances

Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli has had a terrific start to the 2023 season.

So far, the smooth mover had had at least 23 disposals and six clearances in every game, and he should eclipse those numbers against the Dockers.

Last time against the Dockers in last year’s elimination final, Bontempelli did his best with two goals, 30 disposals and nine marks.

The question will simply be how much Justin Longmuir’s side can slow him down?

He’s in far too good of form to stop him entirely.

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan to kick at least one goal

The former No. 1 pick has had an up and down start to the season.

While he’s goaled in just two of the first five games, one of those included a bag of five in the win over Brisbane.

Having gone goalless in Round 4 and 5, Ugle-Hagan is surely due to hit the scoreboard in this clash.

Even though it’s not expected to be a high-scoring game, Ugle-Hagan should get multiple chances inside 50 to put his stamp on the game.

He’s due for some luck and that could come on Friday night against the Dockers.
