Back for another year, the SEN.com.au team gives you an insight into how every game will play out across the weekend.
Labelling something a ‘certainty’ in any sport is fraught with danger.
But we’ll attempt to find some anyway.
Last week we went 17/22 and we'll endeavour to go bigger again.
Take a look at our certainties for the rest of the Gather Round action.
Brisbane versus North Melbourne
Charlie Cameron 2 goals
Who will star for Brisbane in rural South Australia when they need their forwards to stand up? Charlie Cameron will be the man.
Ben McKay and Griffin Logue returning to the side will make life harder for Joe Daniher and Eric Hipwood, but the Roos still do not have a good matchup for Cameron.
Expect him to take full advantage and kick at least two goals.
Cam Zurhaar 15 disposals and 1 goal
Cam Zurhaar has had 15 disposals in every game so far this season playing a new role that includes greater midfield time.
Expect him to continue that trend up against a Brisbane midfield in mixed form.
He will likely push forward from stoppages and get dangerous. He has hit the scoreboard consistently all season.
Nic Negrepontis
Essendon v Melbourne
Jake Stringer to kick two or more goals
Essendon forward Jake Stringer began to click into gear last week with four goals and six behinds in a dominant performance against GWS.
After an interrupted pre-season, Stringer was made to work for his spot in the team and that seems to have paid off with the 28-year-old looking fit and dynamic.
With the likes of Peter Wright and Sam Weideman injured, Stringer will need to carry an offensive load if the Dons are to have any chance in this one.
Expect his teammates to look for him inside 50 as well.
Clayton Oliver to have 30 or more disposals
Clayton Oliver has been dominant to start the 2023 season.
One of the AFL’s most prolific midfielders, Oliver is averaging 32.3 per game.
Already passing the 30-disposal marker on three out of four occasions this season, we’re expecting Oliver to make it four out of five against the Dons.
Having picked up 38 and 34 touches in his last two outings against Essendon, the Demon could be set for another big one at the Adelaide Oval.
Lachlan Geleit
Port Adelaide v Western Bulldogs
Charlie Dixon boots 2+ goals
There’s something about the Bulldogs that Charlie Dixon just loves.
The old school forward has feasted when facing the Dogs throughout his whole career, averaging 2.2 goals through the 14 games he has played against the club.
While the Bulldogs’ backline has seemingly figured out some of their defensive issues in their last two games, they still don’t have a matchup for Dixon that they’d be overly confident in.
He has already booted 9 goals this season, primarily due to his sheer dominance in air, ranking second in the competition for contested marks.
While Dixon did go goalless last week against Sydney, he was still impactful for his side, doing work all around the ground to help his side secure a pivotal win.
Expect Dixon to be at his best in front of a thunderous Power crowd.
Adam Treloar 25+ touches, 5+ clearances
Adam Treloar is putting together some of his best work right now.
Aside from missing the Dogs’ Round 2 match with a hamstring tweak, he has barely put a foot wrong to start the season, averaging 28.3 possessions and 8.3 clearances in the early goings.
Treloar has had no trouble getting his hands on the footy against this Port side, averaging 25.9 touches for his career against the Power.
He is currently riding a streak of 29 straight games with over 20 touches, expect Treloar to make that 30 with another impactful performance.
Jack Makeham
Geelong v West Coast
Cameron to have 15+ disposals and kick 2+ goals
Jeremy Cameron is the best player in the league right now.
He’s already had two fill-ups in 2023 and against the struggling Eagles on Sunday he might well do so again.
In his four games to date this year, he has finished with 16 disposals and two goals, 25 disposals and six goals, 15 disposals and three goals and 22 disposals and seven goals.
Cameron is in a rich vein of form and we’re banking on him continuing that, however, it might be a bit wet and slippery come Sunday.
He should at least pick up 15 disposals and kick two goals against West Coast this weekend.
Kelly to have 25+ disposals
Tim Kelly has comfortably been West Coast’s best player so far in 2023.
He is averaging 30.8 touches across four rounds which is equal sixth in the AFL prior to Round 5.
This year Kelly has gone 22, 32, 33 and 36, and the last time he took on former club Geelong he had 28 touches in Round 23 last year.
With that being the case we’re fairly certain he’ll get to the 25-disposal mark against his old colleagues in Adelaide on Sunday.
Andrew Slevison
Greater Western Sydney v Hawthorn
Greene to enjoy 15+ disposals and one or more goal
It’s a mark Toby Greene has hit in three of four games this week and he’ll expect to do the same again this week.
The Giants would hope to move the ball better against a Hawthorn outfit that got demolished last week, but another factor that should aid the individual performance of Greene is the absence of Brent Daniels.
Daniels has been managed for Round 5 and often plays a similar role to Greene. Expect the Giants skipper to spend more time higher up the ground but be equally as dangerous close to goal on Sunday.
Newcombe to gather 20+ disposals
It was a rare down game for Jai Newcombe as Hawthorn was monstered by Geelong last week, but he’s got plenty of favours that suggest he’ll bounce back against the Giants.
Round 4 was just the second of his last 12 games going under 20 disposals and Newcombe will have to step up in Gather Round for several reasons.
Will Day, Cam Mackenzie and Finn Maginness all go out, meaning Newcombe’s on-ball time will be boosted.
For a game the Hawks will see as winnable, there's no doubt Newcombe will be fired up to improve.
Seb Mottram
St Kilda v Collingwood
Steele Sidebottom to have 20 or more disposals
After a quiet game against Brisbane last year, Steele Sidebottom will be back to his best in a huge clash against the unbeaten Saints.
Averaging 19.8 disposals this year, the veteran Pie will love the wide wings the Adelaide Oval has to offer and against a St Kilda side that often allows their oppositions wingman space, he should go above his average on Saturday night.
His last two games against the Saints have seen a return of 14 and 16 touches, that won't be the case this weekend.
Callum Wilkie to have 15 or more disposals
One of the best defenders in the competition, Callum Wilkie will shine on the big stage and have 15 or more disposals.
Wilkie has collected 24, 17, 19 and 24 disposals in the first three games of the year and against a Collingwood forward line with no star tall forwards, he'll find it 15 or more times.
Given he's such a beautiful kick, the Saints love getting the ball in his hands, plus the added advantage of taking some kick-ins.
