Outgoing AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan has certainly shown his fair share of celebrities around a footy venue.
The likes of Robbie Williams, The Killers, Chris Hemsworth and more have come through, but one stands above the rest and that is the current United States president Joe Biden.
Biden was given the full tour of the MCG during Carlton’s Round 17 clash with West Coast back in 2016, shaking hands with key personnel from both clubs, Julie Bishop and Mason Cox.
McLachlan, who sat with the then U.S Vice President for the full game, was blown away by the man.
“Well the most famous (person I’ve shown around a game) was Joe Biden,” McLachlan told Fox Footy’s AFL 360.
“I sat next to him for four hours. It was actually a dreadful game … it was a Sunday afternoon game, it was Carlton and West Coast.
“I’m not going to comment on (Biden’s) current status, what I will say is when I met him he was one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met.
“There’s a lot of people who haven’t lived up to the expectation. Joe Biden was unbelievable.
“He gave a speech off the cuff about the history of Australia and America’s military partnership. Then I took him down onto the field and I do remember this – Steven Trigg was the CEO (of Carlton), Marc Murphy was the captain and Mark LoGiudice was chairman – he treated them all differently.
“He was such a retail politician talking to the president and then turned to the captain and pulled him in and he swore – and I was like oh my god this guy is a master.”
