Arsenal and Chelsea held to draws as Tottenham concede four against Souttar and Leicester

2023-02-12T09:45+11:00

In what was one of the more entertaining rounds of overnight fixtures in the Premier League, six of the teams currently in the top ten on the table all dropped points.

The London Derby between West Ham and Chelsea headlined the six-game slate, with the two struggling clubs desperate for a victory.

Chelsea deservedly opened the scoring in the 16th minute, with a combination of new signings, Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix linking up to put the Blues ahead.

West Ham wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, with Emerson Palmieri coming back to haunt his former side just eight minutes later, levelling the score.

Chelsea continued to dictate the flow of the game for the remainder of the game, forcing the Hammers to sit back deep in their own half.

Despite an abundance of chances and a 50% swing in possession, Chelsea’s struggles in front of goal cost them dearly as they were forced to hold on to yet another draw.

Chelsea remains stuck in ninth spot on the ladder as West Ham moved another point away from the drop zone.

League leaders Arsenal were also stunningly held to a draw after a controversial goal from Ivan Toney saw Brentford hang on for a point.

In a game that the Gunners dominated for the majority of the time, they were unable to crack the resilient Brentford until the 66th minute when new-signing Leandro Trossard bagged his first goal for the club.

Arsenal’s lead was short-lived, however, when Toney got his head on the end of a poor shot. The goal was thoroughly reviewed by VAR and despite what seemed like Toney being in a clear offside position, the goal stood.

The Gunners’ frustration at the referees may have been their eventual undoing as Brentford stayed strong and defence and denied Arsenal of all three points.

Arsenal’s cross-town rivals, Tottenham also on the wrong side of an upset result, going down 4-1 to Leicester City.

After going behind early, the Foxes bumped the intensity and showed flashes of the side they once were, which eventually led them into the lead with two quickfire goals in the 23rd and 25th minutes.

Leicester inflicted more punishment moments before the break-through Kelechi Iheanacho, giving them a 3-1 lead before Harvey Barnes gave his side a fourth goal in the later stages of the game.

Elsewhere, Fulham eased past Nottingham Forrest, Brighton were held to a draw against rivals Crystal Palace, Wolves clawed three points against Southampton, and Newcastle shared the points with Bournemouth.
