The Brooklyn Nets have washed their hands from the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving experiment, trading away to All-NBA forward to Phoenix Suns for a package of players and multiple first-round picks, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania
Brooklyn has completed their second mega trade in a matter of days, after dealing Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks after he asked out.
Durant’s future in Brooklyn had been in doubt in the last couple of days after fellow star Irving was dealt to the Mavericks.
The 34-year-old had previously requested a trade away from the Nets prior to the start of the 2022/23 NBA season, which was later rescinded after meetings with owner Joe Tsai and General Manager Sean Marks.
The Suns have reportedly sent young wings Cameron Johnson and Mikal Bridges to the Nets, along with four unprotected first-round picks, starting this year and stretching until 2029.
Brooklyn now finds itself in an interesting situation, holding many valuable players that can be turned into assets including Australian Patty Mills and Ben Simmons, as well as Nic Claxton, Spencer Dinwiddie and Seth Curry.
With just under 24 hours until the trade window closes, expect Brooklyn to be one of the more active sides as the deadline approaches.
