Former Richmond and Gold Coast defender Oleg Markov will train at Carlton over the next week in hopes of earning a rookie spot, reports AFL Media’s Riley Beveridge.
The additional list spot was opened after Zac Williams went down with a season-ending ACL injury, with Markov a potential replacement for the 28-year-old off half-back.
Markov has spent the pre-season training with Collingwood, but after being overlooked for their final list spot, will now head to Princes Park.
The report states that Markov has already completed a medical as he hopes to impress before the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Deadline on February 15.
While Markov will hope to win the final list spot, that won’t come easily with Carlton VFL defender Alex Cincotta also vying for the contract.
Cincotta has been training with the Blues throughout the summer after impressing last VFL season.
Markov played 23 games for Richmond between 2016 and 2020 and 28 games for Gold Coast across the last two seasons.
Carlton's depth across half back has also been impacted with Jordan Boyd also dealing with a long-term injury.
