2023-02-05T11:08+11:00

South Sydney Rabbitohs fullback Latrell Mitchell and Canberra Raiders half Jack Wighton have both been arrested in the nation’s capital overnight, according to Newscorp.

The pair were out at a nightclub in Canberra celebrating Wighton’s 30th birthday on Saturday night when the alleged incident occurred.

The incident happened at around 2am where witnesses said it was no more than a friendly wrestle between two mates.

Police were called to the venue shortly after and Mitchell was charged with resisting arrest.

The pair spent the night in police cells and will likely see the matter go to court in the near future.

The Rabbitohs released a statement on Sunday morning, via Twitter acknowleding the incident.

"The South Sydney Rabbitohs are aware of an alleged incident involving Latrell Mitchell this morning in Canberra," a statement read.

"The Rabbitohs have informed the NRL Integrity Unit about the alleged incident.

"The Rabbitohs will be making no further comment at this stage."

It is yet to be seen whether or not the incident will affect both players’ involvement in the upcoming NRL Preseason Challenge and NRL All-Stars game, which is scheduled to get started on Thursday.

The matter is known by the NRL Integrity Unit and is being investigated.
