In a massive boost for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, the club has confirmed that Latrell Mitchell, Damien Cook and Cody Walker have all re-committed for the next three seasons – with Mitchell extending until 2027.
The trio excelled in 2022, playing arguably the best footy of their careers and leading the Rabbitohs to a fourth-straight preliminary final.
The Rabbitohs managed to fight off interest from The Dolphins to lock up the majority of their spine, with rookie halfback Lachlan Ilias already extending his stay at Redfern earlier in the year.
With the majority of their star players under contract for the next three seasons, SEN’s Jelisa Apps praised the Rabbitohs for keeping some much-needed contingency in the most crucial positions.
“It’s to be commended to keep them all together when you had all three superstars coming off-contract and to manage to get all the deals done,” Apps said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“We had Cook last week and to get Cody and Latrell done pretty soon after… well done to the Rabbitohs to be able to keep them all.”
SEN’s Jimmy Smith noted that his former side had plenty of confidence in retaining all three players and that there was no doubt in getting the deals over the line.
“The other thing around it and this is very different to what has played out at Parramatta and other clubs, never at any point did we think they were going anywhere else,” he said.
“Latrell is almost that player where it’s like, I’m not even negotiating with you we are just making sure that you are happy because we want to make sure that you are happy.
“If you think about it, from that commercial point of view the opportunities that exist for him at the Rabbitohs are almost endless.
“I don’t think there is another player in the league who has greater opportunity for third-party endorsements than Latrell.”
The Rabbitohs confirmed Mitchell and Walker’s deals in a statement on Wednesday which can be found here.
