Sydney Thunder captain Jason Sangha has given an optimistic prediction for the upcoming Big Bash season as he prepares to lead out a side featuring David Warner.
Warner’s triumphant return to the Thunder signals his first appearance in the Big Bash since 2013 when he last played with the Sydney Sixers.
The 36-year-old starred in his early days for Sydney Thunder, scoring 101 not out in the side’s debut match in the Big Bash.
Sangha, who is 13 years his junior, didn’t hold back his excitement in previewing Warner’s comeback to the Thunder.
“Even when he was serving his year ban and he was playing with us at Randwick, just his interactions (were great) and he’s always had some sort of connection or impact that he left with every person,” Sangha said on SEN 1170 Afternoons.
“The type of person that Dave is, he’s always willing to give advice and feedback, and he’s always willing to help people improve.
“I think that’s something our young batters at the Thunder could really use, I talk about our young left-hand opening batter, Harry Gilkes, myself and Ollie Davies.
“We’ve got a lot of really young guys who have had a taste of Big Bash, this is just the icing on the cake having someone like Dave around, he’s absolutely amazing to talk cricket with, he knows so much about the game.
“I think for a lot of those younger guys it’s really good to have him, obviously from a white-ball point of view but even learning the craft of batting in red-ball cricket, and life in general, Dave is exceptional at that.
“We’re really excited to have him playing with us this year at the Thunder… I’m really looking forward to playing with Davey.”
The Thunder opens up their BBL|12 campaign against the Melbourne Stars at Manuka Oval on the 13th of December.
