Paul's Punting Plays - Cranbourne Cup Day

2022-11-11T13:32+11:00

With the end of the Flemington Spring Carnival hitting us between the eyes, we now turn our attention to Cranbourne Cup Day.

With a dry day predicted and little wind to worry about, expect talented horses who can settle on the speed from inside barriers be very hard to run down.

Cranbourne

Race 1 – Rhino The Wrecker Plate

4. Roussillon – Slick jump outs from this young colt by Exceed and Excel. Godolphin has had a brilliant carnival and is in solid form. The big thing to look out for with this horse is the ability to jump cleanly, jump fast and settle himself on the speed, which hands us a big edge on this tight-turning track. Just keep an eye on his parade and, if he parades with poise and swagger, we might double out bet on him.

Race 3 – Reed Cranes & Tran Marathon BM-84

2. Nobel Heights – Gets weight swing on Port Philip as well as getting back onto a dry track, which are two huge positives. Draws the perfect barrier to either lead or take a sit if the speed gets a bit too spicy. Worth a decent each-way ticket.

Race 8 – Apache Cat Classic

5. Ranting – There is an abundance of early speed predicted for this race with Midwest, Sartorial Splendour, Ancestry, I Am War and Sam’s Image all looking to push forward. The horse who drops in behind them with a trail is Ranting and he was a very smart winner when first-up last preparation. Love the booking of Johnny Allen, which signals intent.
