The list of Kane Cornes’ top Australian football journalists is now complete.
Over the course of the last few weeks, the Port Adelaide champion and media megastar has slowly released his top journos.
Cornes has now named his top 5 and we’ve supplied the full list below.
See 5 to 1 here:
5. Sam Edmund (SEN)
“When you have multiple strengths you get in the top five.
“When you can host your own show, when you can break news… Edmund is five.”
4. Mitch Cleary (Channel 7)
“I love the story. He started producing, he produced The Sounding Board, he was sort of carrying Hutchy’s bags for a while there.
“I love his discipline and the hunger.”
3. Damian Barrett (AFL Media, Channel 9)
“Multi-disciplined journo.
“When you get into the realm of a journo who doesn’t even have to break a story, it’s impactful.
“I still think he breaks stories but he doesn’t need to. He’s an opinion guy now.
“When you go from journo to opinion, I think you’ve made it.”
2. Callum Twomey (AFL Media)
“Speaking of meteoric rise, Cal Twomey had one of the great years.
“He came home really hard. I want to see a bit more of this, breaking stories, during the season.
“He had the Horne-Francis story, had the Ratten sacking…
“Has turned himself into one of the great news-breaking journos and has done it in a similar way to Mitch, started at the bottom and worked his way up.”
1. Caroline Wilson (The Age, Channel 9, Don’t Shoot The Messenger co-host)
“This will be divisive but once again I don’t care…
“Caroline Wilson is the best journalist we’ve got.
“There will be people out there that don’t want to hear that but she is phenomenal.
“To see how she turns up at Footy Classified on Monday night and the hunger, the amount of phone calls, the contacts.
“She breaks a story every Monday. A lot of them go under the radar.
“Yes, I’m biased and you’ll say that, but she would turn on me if she had to.
“She’s just ruthless, I just think she’s the best we’ve got. I think she’s unbelievable at what she does.”
