Liam Hampson has passed away whilst on holiday, aged 24.
Hampson was holidaying with Titans star AJ Brimson and Broncos backrower Jordan Riki in Barcelona and was reported missing by Brimson via social media.
Brimson put out a post on his Instagram on Wednesday night to inform his followers of Hampson’s disappearance, stating it was very out of character and that he hadn’t been seen in 24 hours.
Barcelona police confirmed to 7 News that Hampson had passed away, with his death being treated as accidental.
Hampson’s father, Liam took to Facebook to confirm the news asking for privacy during this tough time.
“Waking up to the news no one wants to hear, we are devastated to find out that Liam had an accident and sadly has not survived,” he wrote.
“We are heartbroken to say the least. Liam had a heart of gold and was a much loved son, brother, grandson, uncle and friend. Words can not express our grief.
“We can not thank his mates enough for being there with Liam having the time of his life and assisting in the search for our boy. Our thought are with them.
“We are asking the media to respect our privacy as we work through this time.”
Hampson played three seasons with the Tweed Head Seagulls in the Queensland Cup competition before signing with the Redcliffe Dolphins for the 2022 season.
The 24-year-old made 11 appearances for the Dolphins last season and was expected to push for a first-grade appearance with the newest NRL side in 2023.
