The fillies get their go at Guineas glory on Wednesday at Caulfield.
It is meeting where we will tread carefully just given the unpredictable weather scenario in Melbourne.
There is very heavy rain forecast for early afternoon, so, by the time the Thousand Guineas comes around, we might be playing on a heavy track.
With that in mind, should the track begin to deteriorate, there are a handful of wet trackers to focus on later in the program.
Caulfield, October 12
Race 3 – Coongy Cup
4. Milford – His two runs on paper read pretty plain, but he is building towards full fitness and should be ready to run somewhere near his best. Was beaten only six lengths in the Tunrbull Stakes when only second-up into his campaign and his previous two runs at Caulfield over 2000 metres have been wins. Will race on the speed and should be hard to run down.
Race 7 – Blue Sapphire
5. Economics – Putting a pen through all the Melbourne form and any horses who are first up, so it means we land in the corner of Economics. His win first-up off a spell showed he has improved lengths since his two-year-old campaign. Chad Schofield rode him last start at Randwick and makes the trek down to Victoria to ride him again. Love the way this horse cruised with a lovely head carriage to the line in the Heritage Stakes.
Race 8 – Thousand Guineas
5. North Star Lass – Gives off the feel she might be a bit like Global Glamour. This three-year-old filly has a strong cruising speed, like many of the Waterhouse runners, which she can use to run her opponents ragged. Handles any going, is rock-hard fit, has a strong form reference to Zougotcha and gets the services of demon front-running jockey Tim Clark.
