“Thought we had a decent relationship”: Horne-Francis responds to ex-teammate’s sledge

2022-10-11T15:00+11:00

Jason Horne-Francis has responded to his former North Melbourne teammate Cam Zurhaar after the forward cheekily sledged the 19-year-old via Instagram.

In the wake of last year’s number one draft pick being sent to Alberton in a four-team mega-deal, Zurhaar appeared to take multiple digs at his expense.

The forward initially commented ‘Elite’ on North Melbourne’s Instagram post where they detailed the trade which saw Horne-Francis, pick No. 1 and a future third-round pick sent off for picks 2, 3, 40, 43 and a future first-round pick.

Following up on that comment, Zurhaar’s cooking company – Bulls Cooking – posted to its Instagram page a 10 per cent discount for tote bags on its online store using the code ‘Hornetgone’ – a reference to Horne-Francis’ nickname.

While the social media posts looked genuine from Zurhaar’s end, Horne-Francis played them down as “fun and games” at his introductory Port Adelaide press conference.

"I think it's a bit of fun and games," Horne-Francis said.

"Me and Cam, I thought we had a decent relationship, so yeah."

Although Horne-Francis refused to get into a sledging match with his former teammate, he did send a barb North Melbourne’s way as he said his move to Port Adelaide was partly motivated by getting away from the “unstable” environment at Arden Street.

“I wanted to make sure that I was in a stable environment coming into this year,” he said.

“I think a lot of people know it might be another unstable year at North, so we just thought coming back home to a great club like Port Adelaide would be best for me.”

Horne-Francis inked a six-year deal upon joining the Power, keeping him tied to the club until the end of the 2028 season.
