Swans to “wait and see” with Reid as Ladhams’ brain-fade rules ruckman out of GF

2022-09-18T10:30+10:00

Sydney’s Sam Reid is in serious doubt for the 2022 AFL Grand Final against Geelong after suffering an adductor injury in the one-point Preliminary Final win against Collingwood on Saturday.

The veteran forward suffered the injury in the second quarter and while receiving treatment, wasn’t able to return to play as medi-sub Braeden Campbell was activated at half-time.

Sydney coach John Longmire said the club would have to “wait and see” how the 30-year-old pulls up from the game.

“We don't know yet,” Longmire said in his post-match press conference.

“It's just after our game. I don't deal in the 'what ifs' an hour after the game. Let's just wait and see.”

With Reid a potential out, Sydney won’t be able to turn to ruckman Peter Ladhams who is unavailable after being suspended in the VFL for a brain-fade hit on Casey’s Taj Woewodin.

If Reid is ruled out and the Swans go for a like-for-like replacement, Hayden McLean or Joel Amartey loom as options with the pair playing eight and six senior games respectively this season.

The teams for the 2022 AFL Grand Final will be revealed on Thursday at 6:20pm (AEST).
