Mitch Robinson says he was left “devastated” not being able to announce publicly he had play his final game as a Lion ahead of Brisbane’s Preliminary Final against Geelong.
The Lions are out of the finals after their heavy defeat against the Cats on Friday night, losing by 71 points in front of over 77,000 people at the MCG.
The 33-year-old has been at Brisbane since 2015, playing 147 games after making the move from Carlton.
Following the club’s Preliminary Final defeat, Robinson said he was unhappy at not being able to properly acknowledge Brisbane fans after not having his contract renewed for 2023.
“This was my last photo as a Lion,” he said on Instagram after posting a photo of himself following the Elimination Final win over Richmond.
“Happy beating the Tiges but sad knowing it’d be my last at the Gabba.
“Devastated Fages (Chris Fagan) wouldn’t allow me announce this in person to the supporters, but I guess that’s footy.
“It’s been an absolute privilege pulling on the Fitzroy and Lions jumper! Thank you all for the last 8 years, I’ll never forget the love you all showed me, Emma and my kids.
“I left it all out there every single game, I love you all.”
Brisbane is expected to make several moves during this off-season, headlined by out of contract Western Bulldogs midfielder Josh Dunkley who has been heavily linked to the club.
Free agent Dan McStay has likely played his final game for Brisbane, as the forward prepares to head south and seal a move at Collingwood.
