Melbourne assistant confirms approach from Essendon for coaching process

2022-09-09T20:45+10:00

Senior Melbourne assistant Adem Yze has confirmed he’s been approached by Essendon as the club searches for its next senior coach.

Yze, who was believed to be the frontrunner for the GWS job before being pipped by Adam Kingsley, confirmed the news to Channel 7 ahead of Friday night’s Semi Final against Brisbane.

Yze was asked: “Have you been approached by Essendon to be a part of their setup?”

He responded: “Yeah I have, and that will all start next week. I’ll have an informal chat with them next week and see where that lands.

“Josh Mahoney (Essendon GM of football), obviously he was a line coach here before, so I’m really confident with the way their football club is set up.”

Mahoney is chairing Essendon’s six-person after being backed in by new Essendon president Dave Barham to maintain his role in the wake of Ben Rutten's sacking.

Despite the Bombers originally setting their sights on an experienced coach, Ross Lyon, Brad Scott and Leon Cameron have all reportedly turned the club down in the past week.

Yze was previously an assistant at Hawthorn and played a role in the club’s premiership era under Alastair Clarkson before joining the Demons.
