Would trade back to former club suit Hawks midfielder?

2022-09-01T20:07+10:00

Andy Maher says Sydney should look at bringing Tom Mitchell back to the club as the Hawthorn midfielder prepares to make a decision on his future.

As reported by Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary on Wednesday night, Mitchell is exploring his trade options as he chases more midfield time at another club next season.

Mitchell, who still has a year left on his current deal at Hawthorn, played 65 games for the Swans before joining the Hawks ahead of the 2017 season.

Maher believes Mitchell would fit in seamlessly around Sydney’s young midfield and fill the void about to be left by the retiring Josh Kennedy.

“He’d fit alright in Sydney,” he said on SEN’s The Run Home.

“Josh Kennedy goes … think about the players they could put around him. They have six or seven guys who sweep past (in the midfield), he would be an absolutely magnificent distributor.”

Hawthorn great Dermott Brereton believes Mitchell should look to find a third club, as long as the money is right and they’re in the premiership window.

“He can still be a teacher at Hawthorn at a lesser role or does he want to go chase a premiership?” He said.

“If the money is sufficient and there’s an offer form a club who is in genuine contention, I think he’ll look at the offer wholeheartedly.”

Mitchell played 21 games for Hawthorn this season, averaging 28 disposals and almost four marks.
