The bleeding has stopped, but will the plaster stay on for NZR?

2022-08-26T12:01+10:00

Well, it's been such a quiet, non-turbulent build-up to this Test, you’d hardly believe the All Blacks are stepping out tomorrow night.

Compared to the previous month of conjecture and displeasure around the coaching staff, the style of play and the overall performance, this has been a stroll in Hagley Park for Fozzie (Ian Foster) and the gang.

One better performance, the arrival on the scene of Jason Ryan and Joe Schmidt to bolster the coaching ranks and some finality out of New Zealand Rugby has certainly stemmed the tide of concern.

Or has it? Put it this way, the vultures are still circling, but they're just not as visible, and that's why this Test against Argentina and next week's Hamilton affair are as important and crucial as that victory at Ellis Park.

The bleeding has stopped, but only two conclusive, methodical victories with dominance in the right areas will ensure the plaster stays on.

Seems unfair, the battle in the coaching ranks: David Kidwell’s defence against Joe Smith's attack.

Kidwell’s been with the Pumas around about two months, Schmidt with the All Blacks about two minutes, so for all intents and purposes they're newbies, but we know that that's not true.

The former is still learning about the role; the techniques, as much as he is coaching them (while) Schmidt is proven beyond speculation.

On that score, the All Blacks could well run riot and my prediction is they will.

Michael Chieka’s misery on Kiwi soil will continue; another losing coaching interview to look forward to.

A different jersey; same old, same old.

And it's been a long time since any Kiwi success on the gorgeous Adelaide Oval, but that'll change tomorrow afternoon as well.

The Black Ferns will run amok over the Wallaroos to confirm they are at least the third-best women's rugby team on the planet.

Wayne Smith has found the formula, just as finally NZR have.

In a matter of hours, New Zealand's best rugby talent will be on show performing under the guidance of New Zealand's best coaching talent.

Well, maybe, with the exception of Razor (Scott Robertson) of course.

See those vultures? They are still circling, don't worry about that.
