Collingwood coach Craig McRae has provided an update on Jordan De Goey and Jack Ginnivan.
The pair are under an injury cloud heading into Round 23’s enormous clash with Carlton – De Goey was a late out for the Sydney clash while Ginnivan suffered a hamstring injury.
McRae says both got through training today and now need to tick the box on Friday to be ready for Sunday.
“We’ll name both the guys, they both got through training today and they did what they had to do,” the Collingwood coach told SEN’s The Run Home.
“The reality is we’ll just have to wait until they get through training Friday.
“There was an element of like if they don’t get through training today, we won’t pick them, but they did that, so that’s one hurdle they had to get over so we need to get to Friday and see where they’re at.”
It was revealed earlier in the month that Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy has met with Melbourne as discussions swirl surrounding his future.
McRae believes players meeting with opposition sides is simply a reality of footy in 2022.
“I’m probably more of the view that it’s the reality,” McRae said.
“It’s happening all over the country. We can’t control free agency. Brodie’s a bit different, he’s a contracted player, but managements talk to people, our list manager Graham Wright is talking to his manager and the details are exactly what they look like.
“So that might present an opportunity for a door to be open so I’m more of the approach that we just accept it for what it is, but also have that maturity to be able to be like ‘you step back into our walls, you’re a Collingwood player, let’s get to work, let’s get busy here, make us better’.”
