Clarkson begins contacting assistants as coaching decision looms

2022-08-09T12:16+10:00

Alastiar Clarkson has begun ringing assistant coaches to enquire about their availability for 2023, according to SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund.

With both North Melbourne and GWS meeting Clarkson recently, the four-time premiership coach is poised to make a decision on his coaching future in the coming weeks.

Speaking on SEN’s Whateley, Edmund reports that Clarkson has started to reach out to potential assistant coaches who could join at whatever club he opts to coach next year.

“If Alastair Clarkson comes in, he’ll want to bring in his own people to shape sections of North Melbourne’s off-field personnel,” he said on Tuesday morning.

“Clarkson has rung assistant coaches in the last week or so to sound out their availability for next year. He is absolutely working the phones at the moment.

“The coaches at the moment have been told nothing – August 1 is the supposed date put in place by the AFL Coaches’ Association that asks for clubs to give assistants an indication of their future.

“It is not a mandated date and most clubs are good with that. North Melbourne and even GWS are in a state of limbo at the moment.”

North Melbourne remains anchored to the bottom of the ladder with two games of the home and away season remaining.
