Nathan Buckley thinks a couple of clubs in the premiership window “missed a trick” not pursuing Adelaide veteran Taylor Walker.
The former Crows captain will play on for a 16th AFL season after agreeing to a one-year contract extension in July.
Walker still spearheads Adelaide’s attack in the twilight of his career, booting a team-high 43 goals in 16 games this season.
Buckley says the 32-year-old would’ve been ideal for a contending club needing a goalkicking forward for 2023.

“I still think a couple of clubs – Melbourne being one – missed a trick,” the former Collingwood coach told SEN Breakfast.
“I thought Taylor Walker was gettable. I think a trick has been missed there.
“I think he would’ve been the player for a club in the window that wanted to improve their prospects and you needed someone in the front half for the next two years, maybe three.
“I think that was an opportunity missed for some.
“He may well have wanted to finish his career there (at Adelaide) anyway, and they’ve finished the season off really well and they’ve got a good young group of players coming through.
“But I thought that was an opportunity missed for a club in the window.”
Walker missed the early rounds of this year following a six-week ban for a racial slur imposed last August.
Adelaide’s all-time leading goalkicker has 532 majors in 236 AFL games.
