Postecoglou critical after Celtic’s season-opening win

2022-08-01T13:47+10:00

Ange Postecoglou wasn’t entirely pleased with Celtic’s season-opening 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Parkhead on Sunday.

The Hoops got their title defence off to a winning start thanks to goals in either half from defender Stephen Welsh and Portuguese attacker Jota.

But Postecoglou wants his side to be more clinical in the final third.

Celtic had more shots (21-5) and enjoyed more possession (69-33) but couldn’t fully capitalise on their territorial dominance.

“It was a solid performance, but we were just wasteful in front of goal,” Postecoglou said post-game on Clyde Radio.

“I was disappointed because I thought we could have been a lot more clinical.

“Sometimes you can fall into the trap of knowing we will create loads of opportunities and because of that you are not as focused as you should be.

“My view is we are creating opportunities, so let’s take as many as we can.”

Socceroos midfielder Aaron Mooy made his Celtic debut after coming on as a substitute in the final 10 minutes.

Postecoglou’s side are away at Ross County on Saturday.
