WNBA franchise announces “contract divorce” with Liz Cambage

2022-07-27T09:28+10:00

UPDATE | Chris Haynes from Yahoo Sports is reporting that Liz Cambage stormed out of the locker-room saying: “I can’t do this anymore. Best of luck to you guys”, after their recent loss.

Cambage reportedly complained about not getting enough of the ball during the game, leading to her teammates going out of their way to force feed her the ball on every possession, out of their own frustration.

Her teammates were reportedly shocked with the timing of her exit, but not the exit itself.

ORIGINAL STORY

Australia’s Liz Cambage has departed the Los Angeles Sparks after just five months with the WNBA franchise.

The club announced on Tuesday that they had agreed to a “contract divorce” with the centre where they said the 30-year-old left amicably.

Sparks managing partner Eric Holoman said Cambage’s decision to terminate her contract was supported by the franchise.

“It is with support that we share Liz Cambage’s decision to terminate her contract with the organization,” Holoman said via a statement.

“We want what’s best for Liz and have agreed to part ways amicably. The Sparks remain excited about our core group and are focused on our run towards a 2022 playoff berth.”

Cambage is yet to address the news but reports in the Los Angeles Times suggested she struggled with facing double and triple teams while never reaching peak conditioning.

It’s believed that chemistry issues had been a problem at the Sparks leading up to Cambage’s exit.

The centre averaged 13 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game for the Sparks from 25 games.

She’ll become a free agent once she clears waivers.
