Don Pyke is not about to throw his hat into the ring for just any available senior coaching role.
The Sydney Swans assistant is one name that has been floated for the North Melbourne vacancy.
Pyke, who coached Adelaide between 2016 and 2019, is enjoying his time under John Longmire and is not necessarily seeking a senior role, unless of course its the right fit.
“I’m working through that, to be honest, I’m not trying to be evasive,” he said on SEN SA’s The Run Home.
“I’m really enjoying what I’m doing in the role. I love working with John, I’m loving the group.
“Last year when opportunities came up in that space to put my hat in the ring, so to speak, I was probably more happy with what I’m doing.
“Having just got over here and met these guys, and to think where they might be able to go as a group, it’s exciting as a coach.”
The two-time West Coast premiership player has not shut the door on coaching his own team again, but admits he would have a number of things to consider before heading that way.
“I’ll weigh up what that looks like, whether to continue on the journey with these guys or whether I do want to get back into it,” he added.
“There’s a lot of things to consider doing that role. It’s not just as simple as going, ‘Oh, there’s a job available, let’s go for it’.
“It’s more, ‘What does that look like for me? What does that look like going forward? Is that what I really want to do? Am I ready to do it 100 per cent committed?’
“Those are the questions I’ve got to answer before I decide to engage in any conversation with footy clubs.”
Pyke has been with the Swans across the past two seasons, his presence coinciding with a finals berth last year and their current status in sixth position in 2022.
