Why Crows should chase Magpies free agent

2022-07-19T16:55+10:00

Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney thinks Adelaide should be chasing Collingwood free agent Jordan De Goey.

The 26-year-old remains out-of-contract with the Magpies and has been linked with a move away from the AIA Centre.

“I’d be shocked and amazed if De Goey isn’t playing for either Geelong or St Kilda next year,” journalist Sam McClure told Footy Classified on Monday night.

Collingwood parked contract talks with De Goey until the end of the season following his mid-year trip to Bali.

Cooney has urged the Crows to pursue De Goey saying he could be their missing midfield ingredient.

“I’m suggesting that there should be more than two clubs that are involved in chasing Jordan De Goey,” he told SEN’s The Run Home.

“I think the Adelaide Crows should be chasing Jordan De Goey.

“He’s the exact type of player that they need in the middle of the ground.

“Matt Crouch has found himself out of favour, so he’ll go, he’ll leave at the end of the year.

“They’ve got a medium-sized midfield, they’ve drafted medium-sized players in the last few years – (Josh) Rachele is going to be an electric forward, (Jake) Soligo, Sam Berry, these sorts of players.

“(Ben) Keays is a reasonable size, but they needed a big-bodied elite midfielder in there.

“They’re three to four years away from contending. If Jordan De Goey goes to the Adelaide Crows, that fast-tracks it.

“The missing ingredient for the Crows is an elite midfielder.”

De Goey, a restricted free agent at season’s end, is currently sidelined with a quad injury.
