Essendon coach Ben Rutten says the club is doing its due diligence on former Carlton defender Liam Jones.
Jones recently had an informal meeting with Bombers list boss Adrian Dodoro in Queensland.
The 31-year-old announced his AFL retirement last November after choosing not to follow the league’s vaccine requirements.
But with the AFL recently lifting its vaccine mandate, Jones could find himself back on a senior list.
The ex-Blue played in the QAFL for Palm Beach Currumbin Lions last season.

“It was noted that we caught up with him a couple of weeks ago which was really just part of our due diligence,” Rutten told Sportsday.
“We’re always looking for opportunities to improve our list and Liam Jones is obviously a quality player.
“Where that goes with us, I’m not sure, it was just a preliminary chat just to see where he’s at.
“At the time that we met him there wasn’t much certainty around whether he was going to be able to play or not.
“Still a fair bit of water to go under the bridge for us and it’s a bit of due diligence for us at the moment.”
A new club has reportedly entered the race the Jones’ services.
According to The Herald Sun, Jones has met with the Western Bulldogs, the club where he started his AFL career.
He played 66 games for the Bulldogs before joining the Blues at the end of 2014.
