NRL great and 2005 Clive Churchill medallist Scott Prince supports his former club’s decision to appoint Tim Sheens as head coach and install a succession plan to see fan favourite Benji Marshall take charge in 2025.
Prince was an integral member of the Tigers’ premiership heroics 17 years ago and shone under Sheens’ coaching during his three years at the club.
Prince said that with the current state of the club, there is no better time for Sheens to take over and lay the foundations for future success.
“I reckon it’s a perfect scenario,” Prince said on SEN's Call Time with Katie Brown.
“If there is one person to get them out of the rut they are in, it’s Tim Sheens for sure.
“When he came back as general manager, I thought that was also perfect timing for the club.
“I think it’s a great appointment and especially where the club is at the moment.
“There is some good young talent coming through the club and he is one of the wise men in the competition right across the board in terms of the coaching ranks.”
In addition to Sheens and Marshall, another club legend will join the ranks with Tigers games-record holder Robbie Farah also joining as an assistant.
Prince revealed that he would be open to become an assistant coach at his former club if he was offered.
“If they reached out and we had a decent conversation around it and work out what my role would entail, I certainly wouldn’t say no to it,” he said.
“I would definitely sit down and have a conversation about it.
“I think it’s important having some older players and very successful players being involved with the club to help the team through difficult times.
“They are taking the right steps to get it done.”
The Tigers currently sit last on the ladder and face the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville on July 24.
