Lyon’s candidates for the All-Australian half-back positions

2022-07-04T08:56+10:00

Garry Lyon has listed his candidates to fill the half-back positions in this year’s All-Australian team.

Lyon, a three-time All-Australian, has several names in mind to occupy the two defensive spots across the half-back line.

Selecting the half-back flankers in the 2022 side won’t be an easy task for selectors.

“These are the candidates right now,” Lyon began on SEN Breakfast.

“Daniel Rioli. Angus Brayshaw would nearly be a lock on one, he’s had an extraordinary season as a half-back flanker.

“Nick Daicos would be in contention. Sam Docherty. Jack Sinclair on the weekend was unbelievable for St Kilda. (Brayden) Maynard has been great all year.

“I don’t envy them (the selectors).

“You’ve got Tom Stewart, although he’s out now for four weeks.

“You’ve got Nick Vlastuin as well that sits in that group, probably not half-back flakers, but more interceptors. She’s a pretty good line-up.

“It’s a hard one for sure.”

Western Bulldogs defender Bailey Dale and Brisbane veteran Daniel Rich were the two half-back flankers selected in last year’s All-Australian team.
