AFL legend Leigh Matthews has slammed the “ridiculous” fine handed down to Hawthorn defender James Sicily.
Sicily was initially fined $1000 for misconduct after ripping off Aaron Naughton’s headband.
The fine was raised to $1500 after the Hawks unsuccessfully challenged the sanction via written submission to the AFL Tribunal.
Sicily removed Naughton’s headband as tempers flared during last week’s match between Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

Matthews cannot believe the Hawks defender was fined.
“A travesty of justice when Sicily gets a $1000 fine for ripping Naughton’s headband off,” Matthews told Sportsday.
“Seriously. How can that be justified?
“It’s a travesty of justice. That’s just ridiculous.”
Naughton kicked three goals in the Bulldogs’ 42-point win over the Hawks.
