Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney has predicted who he thinks will be the top seven players in the AFL in five years’ time
The former Western Bulldogs and Essendon midfielder’s list is dominated by young key position players.
Who will be the best players in the AFL in 2027? See Cooney’s list below:
7. Ben King (Gold Coast)
“47 goals last year in a struggling Gold Coast side.
“Imagine how many snags he would’ve kicked this year with the Suns up and about.”
6. Aaron Naughton (Western Bulldogs)
“He’s a star already and will only get better, bigger and stronger.
“He’ll be a powerful forward for years to come.”
5. Sam De Koning (Geelong)
“He’s taken on some of the best key forwards in the game and done a terrific job.
“When he puts on another five or eight kilos, look out.”

4. Luke Jackson (Melbourne)
“His talent is undeniable.”
3. Sam Walsh (Carlton)
“A somewhat contentious one because a lot of people said that he will be the number one player in the game in five years.
“He’s not too far off it at the moment.”
SEN Drive host Julian De Stoop added: “He might win the Brownlow this year.”
2. Jason Horne-Francis (North Melbourne)
“He’s got every attribute that you need.”
1. Max King (St Kilda)
“I think he’ll be the best player in 2027.”
