Key Hawk repays the faith with new long-term deal

2022-06-24T17:25+10:00

Hawthorn key forward Mitch Lewis has signed a four-year contract extension to tie him to the brown and gold until the end of 2026.

Lewis, 23, is one of the most exciting prospects on the Hawks’ list given his youth and performances so far in 2022, with his signature a pivotal one for new coach Sam Mitchell.

He’s enjoying a career-best season, having booted 27 majors despite playing just nine games in 2022 as Hawthorn continues to prove the doubters wrong.

Hawthorn list manager Mark McKenzie said Lewis’ recent progress made the signing more significant for the club.

“We are thrilled to see Mitch commit to the club for at least the next four years,” McKenzie said in a club statement.

“We think Mitch’s desire to remain with the Hawks is a reflection of the culture and environment that continues to build as well as the optimism that surrounds our future.

“Mitch has shown some significant progress over the last 12 months, particularly through this year’s pre-season, to become one of Hawthorn’s most consistent forwards.

“This deal highlights Mitch’s hunger for success at Hawthorn, and we look forward to seeing him further his craft in the brown and gold.”

Lewis is set to make his return against the Bulldogs under the roof at Marvel Stadium on Friday night after overcoming knee swelling.
