De Goey in doubt for Collingwood’s next match

2022-06-21T18:46+10:00

Jordan De Goey is in doubt for Collingwood’s Round 15 match against GWS on Sunday, reports Sam McClure.

De Goey was handed a suspended fine of $25,000 until the end of the 2022 season for showing “disrespectful conduct” during his mid-season holiday in Bali.

The 26-year-old will also undertake further behavioural education for his conduct in addition to an existing counselling program.

McClure understands De Goey isn’t due back at the club until Friday.

“I’m not sure it’s the end of it because when he doesn’t play on Sunday against GWS I think we’ll be talking about it more,” McClure told Sportsday.

“He’s not due back to the club until Friday, according to people that I spoke to, so basically no chance at all.

“And he’s been struggling mentally and emotionally the last few days which you can understand.

“I would put a line through him. I doubt he’ll play.”

De Goey’s career at Collingwood beyond 2022 is up in the air following his Bali nightclub antics.

The Magpies revealed on Tuesday that they have put off contract talks with De Goey until the end of the season.

His current deal with the club is due to expire at the conclusion of this year.

“I’ve got some strong thoughts on how Collingwood have handled this,” McClure added.

“I think they’re conditioning their supporters and the list for the end of the year when I think they’ll part ways with him.”

De Goey was stood down by Collingwood last October after he was arrested over an incident in New York.

The Magpies (8-5) will look to make it five wins in a row against the Giants (4-9) at the MCG.
