Every year when the NRL’s popular version of State of Origin rolls around, many with an interest in AFL fondly recall a bygone era.
State of Origin in Aussie Rules was a loved concept but one we haven’t seen regularly since the late 1990s.
With Origin between the NSW Blues and Queensland Maroons now underway, we’ve come to the party for AFL fans by compiling four state teams.
These sides are based on a mix of current and previous form and with the idea that the mock match is to be played in the next week or so, ruling out those who are injured.
The final edition is the Allies team.
The Allies side is made up of players from Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales, ACT and the Northern Territory, while we have also extended the invitation to internationals who may not have an Australian state of origin.
This side had been selected by the SEN Tassie team of Richmond star and triple premiership player Jack Riewoldt and Tassie broadcaster David ‘Flash’ Lithgow.
Let it be known that the selection of Riewoldt was indeed made by Lithgow and not the Tigers forward himself.
See the Allies team below:
The Victoria side was selected by SEN’s Garry Lyon and Tim Watson.
The Western Australian was selected by SEN WA’s Scott Cummings and Tim Gossage.
The South Australia was selected by SEN SA’s Kane Cornes and Andrew Hayes.
