“Does seem strange”: Sheedy comments puzzle Bombers champion

2022-06-09T08:27+10:00

Scott Lucas has questioned the timing of Kevin Sheedy’s comments about Essendon’s infamous supplements saga.

Sheedy believes the AFL owes the Bombers an apology over their handling of the supplements scandal.

“I would think, when you look back, the AFL didn’t handle it very smartly,” the former Essendon coach told The Herald Sun.

“They were never found guilty in the eyes of positive tests.

“It’s 10 years. What do I have to do, wait for another 10 years until I get to 85 years old until they get exonerated?

“It’s disgraceful.”

Lucas was left puzzled by Sheedy’s comments ahead of Essendon’s 150th anniversary match against Carlton on Friday night.

“It does seem strange,” the Bombers champion told SEN’s The Sporting Capital.

“I assume he sat down for an interview with a journalist … and ‘Sheeds’ has decided to give the whack.

“I can’t think of a good reason why you’d do it.

“If it’s for a diversion or a distraction, well, that lasts all of one day. I think Sheeds was even at the Giants at the time.

“You don’t need to be talking about it this week, and most importantly, I don’t think any of the players really want to look back at that era and hear about it.

“They want to look forward and get on with it.

“Every time someone brings it up, I just look and go, ‘Do we really need to?’ That’s my view anyway.

“To bring it up, I don’t think it’s particularly helpful, but Sheeds is Sheeds.”

The Bombers are struggling at 2-9 ahead of their clash against the Blues.
