Why Jeremy Cameron will prove to be “the biggest bargain of them all”

David King says boom Geelong recruit Jeremy Cameron will prove to be an “absolute steal” for the Cats despite the club having to give up three first-round picks to snare him.

Cameron has been a revelation at the Cats since making the move from GWS at the end of the 2020 season.

The 29-year-old currently leads the Coleman Medal race, booting six goals in his side’s 13-point win on Friday night over the Western Bulldogs.

King said Cameron “changes games”, praising Geelong for securing him despite the high trade price they had to pay.

“(Jeremy Cameron) will be an absolute steal,” he said on AFL Nation.

“I know he cost three first round picks who went to GWS and then got two second rounders back – which cancel out some of that damage – but this guy is a steal.

“If you look at any trade done in the last five or six years that has cost a minimum first rounder, this will be the biggest bargain of them all, closely followed by Dion Prestia, and then you can take your pick after that.

“What he does changes games, everyone talks about him kicking four goals in a win and one goal in a loss. When he kicks four, you just win and there’s no negative there.

“The Cats are going to enjoy the spoils of this for a long time.”

Cameron has kicked 38 goals so far this year, after booting 39 majors from 15 games in his maiden season at the Cats in 2021.
