Lodge and Warriors part ways as property purchase sparks fresh rumours

2022-05-22T14:40+10:00

Speculation is building as to where prop Matt Lodge will land after his shock exit from the Warriors.

The 26-year-old parted way with his former side in the wake of their expected return to New Zealand in the coming months, saying he wants to stay in Australia with his family going forward.

“I couldn’t see my family living in New Zealand for a long-term future,” Lodge said in a club statement.

“Therefore, we decided that the best thing for the club was for us to mutually part ways, so they have some clarity.

“I respect the club and especially the boys a lot and hopefully I showed that by the way I trained and played physical and gave my all every game.”

While many clubs have been linked to the three-club prop, The Australian is reporting that Wayne Bennett’s Dolphins have ruled themselves out despite the recruiting boss, Peter O’Sullivan, being Lodge’s father-in-law.

Although the Daily Telegraph claim that the former Bronco has purchased a property on the Northern beaches, linking him to the Manly Sea Eagles.

New Zealand-born halfback Chanel Harris-Tavita is also set to join Lodge out the door at the season's end after rejecting a contract offer from the Warriors.

As a free agent, Lodge will be able to walk into any club that is willing to sign him.
